Job Description
GENERAL SUMMARY
This key position works with senior management in defining, researching and developing strategic and business development initiatives of the Company. The incumbents primary responsibilities involve working with various senior executives to determine strategic development priorities, identify and research business development opportunities, prepare related analyses, facilitate decision making and formulate acquisition strategies. The position reports to the VP of Marketing, however, the incumbent works on projects directly for other senior management.
PRIMARY DUTIES
Strategic Planning - develop corporate and subsidiary strategic business plans through analysis of market opportunities, business trends, competitive information and regulatory changes. Prepare material to support internal corporate growth by prioritizing initiatives and activities as well as address competitive pressures and business challenges.
Research and Analysis - serve as the Companys primary internal resource for industry information and intelligence. Conduct financial and investment return analyses on a variety of operational, business development and corporate initiatives.
Mergers and Acquisitions - Identify, conduct research of, and interact with potential acquisition and joint venture candidates for purposes of assessing strategic fit with the Company. Prepare pro forma financial projections and valuation models. Take a lead role in acquisition due diligence efforts.
Corporate Expansion - Assist in the development and implementation of strategies to fully capitalize upon existing customer relationships and to expand or enter into new business segments and geographic regions. Help develop strategies to leverage resources and relationships of parent company.
Reporting - Provide periodic reports presenting industry trends, strategic direction and progress against agreed objectives and plans.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY
Determines own practices and procedures, contributing to the development of new concepts. Duties are independently performed with only general direction given. Daily work direction is provided to subcontractors, subordinate personnel, or personnel assigned to support a particular activity. Decisions are made within policy constraints. Provide input to policies and strategic planning. Job has some budgetary preparation/compliance accountability. Position influences, but is not directly accountable for sales volume generation. Job encounters a wide diversity of work situations, extremely complex in nature. Errors in judgment affect Company direction, resource allocation and profitability.
Contacts are normally made with others, at the highest levels, inside and outside of the Company, including consultants, customers, government agencies, industry peers, immediate associates, own supervisor, and senior management. Contacts are usually made on own initiative, concerning matters requiring explanation, discussion, interpretation or approvals.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
A Business Degree (Masters preferred) and at least 5 years of strategic planning, business analysis, research and corporate development experience or comparable combinations of education and experience. Experience working with senior executives.
Strong research skills; understanding of financial reports and ability to create detailed financial models; demonstrated analytical proficiency; ability to draw creative insights based on independent analysis.
Outstanding oral and written communication skills coupled with excellent presentation skills.
Experience in the electric utility industry is desired, but not mandatory.
